The story of David Wilkerson's first five years in New York City is told in The Cross and the Switchblade, a book he co-authored in 1963. The book became a best-selling phenomenon. This story was about a man who left his comfort zone and reached out to youth that needed Christ. The impact of that book has always been with me. David Wilkerson reached out to hurting youth in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Along with William Booth (founder of the Salvation Army), Wilkerson has been a role model to me for ministry. On Friday, January 27th, I thought long and hard about those ministry influences as I experienced a record breaking day in Montego Bay, Jamaica. I spoke to youth at seven different schools in one day! I saw hands go up as I ended the sessions for hundreds of young people to receive Christ. Also during the last week of January, I presented a session to students using the five color Gospel wristband: two 3rd grade classes at Chetwood School, and the 6th grade class of Flankers Primary and Junior High School (pictured below). In total there were over 120 students that heard, received the wristband as a gift, and responded to accept Christ.
Thank you for your support! As we enter our ninth full time year of reaching out to youth that need Christ, you have been part of each outreach that has occurred. Thank you again in advance for your prayers and support. You are part of a great outreach to children and youth through media and missions. In what are called the ghetto areas of Montego Bay, I know this to be true; the Cross is mightier than the switchblade. Sincerely, Rev. Dr. Mark Muirhead MM/dl This month the second missions “Gathering” event will be February 24-26 at Christ Chapel in Woodbridge, Virginia. The church is located next to the largest mall on the east coast, and there are many hotels (less than one mile) nearby the church. More information: www.ilovejamaica.org |
